Some simple questions for prospective residents and families
when choosing a care home.
We believe the following, whilst not exhaustive are some of the key questions
that should be asked when considering
any care home placement.
General
Do professionals involved in your care know the reputation of
the Agency?
Is the home currently registered?
If so, for what services and by what organisation?
Does the home have written statements outlining its services
and eligibility? What
help can be provided to obtain other care services
as needed?
Care Plan
Is the care plan supplied in writing ?
Does the care plan include the specific duties to be performed,
by whom, at when, and for how long?
Is the plan carefully and professionally developed with the client
and his/her family? Can the client review the care plan?
Are family members and professionals consulted by the home?
What arrangements are made for emergencies?
Others
How does an home select its employees? Are references required
by the home and on file? Are staff adequately trained?
Is supervision provided in the home, how often? What arrangements
are made to ensure residents confidentiality?
Are there any additional costs?
